The Mad Monkey Hostel Group is the largest youth travel operator in Cambodia. It is a hostel social enterprise that has provided its entire workforce with fair rates of pay, basic healthcare coverage, fair working rights and treatment, with an increasing mandate to do more work in the community. It was founded in 2010 by a group of friends that wanted to develop an investment model that put people first whilst building long term sustainable and profitable hospitality businesses that had a sense of social conscious, while still maintaining an awesome sense of fun!
Through their projects on Clean Water, Arts Support and Education, the group supports sustainable development, social entrepreneurship and awareness raising. The group, in cooperation with a local NGO, has built 146 working wells, with funding committed for another 151, under the Clean Water Project. The Mad Monkey Direct Education Fund, is funding sustainable projects aimed at improving Cambodians education. In addition, Interest Free Loans of up to $1000 are offered to charities and organisations in need of financial aid in a sustainable and trustworthy manner. To date, $11, 400 have been deployed in sustainable education funding, with 10 projects delivered. Through Arts Support projects, the Mad Monkey raises money through events, fundraisers and with the help of guests, to support various artistic organisations and projects throughout Cambodia. $1200 have already been deployed in sustainable arts support.
